The Second Step is a nonprofit organization that helps those who have experienced domestic abuse to heal and to break the cycle of violence for their families. We provide comprehensive services, including safety planning, legal advocacy, counseling, peer support, transitional housing, and other essential services to adults, youth, and children in Greater Boston and Eastern MA.

Transitional Living Program: A continuum of services aimed at securing safe, permanent housing for survivors. We operate two transitional residences located in Newton, housing up to 17 families at any given time. We also administer short-term rent subsidies for families who qualify, and provide supportive services to ensure successful transitions.

Steps to Justice: Free Trauma Informed Legal Services For Survivors. Our team of Staff Attorneys provides Full Representation, Limited Assistance Representation, advice & consultation on matters including Abuse Prevention Orders, Family Law, Immigration and Housing.

Prevention, Intervention, & Education: Our Advocates provide extensive services to survivors in the community to build skills, develop resilience, heal from trauma and thrive. We also provide outreach and education in the community focusing on topics such as healthy/unhealthy relationships, warning signs of abuse, bystander intervention, and how to help peers, friends, and family members who are in vioand abusive relationships.
