MassBay Receives the Single Largest Gift to Support Health Science Students

WELLESLEY HILLS, MA (March 2, 2018) – MassBay Community College is pleased to announce the Herb and Maxine Jacobs Foundation has gifted the College $50,000 for scholarships for health science students. Full- and part-time Health Science students enrolled in a minimum of four credits are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Students must submit a faculty letter of recommendation and an essay of how this scholarship will assist them to reach their goals to be considered for this funding.

“We are pleased to support MassBay and their students,” said Foundation President Jill Jacobs. “MassBay has an excellent track record in helping a diverse group of students achieve a better life.”

“Without this support, many health science students would not be achieving their dream of a great education and a sustainable job and salary to support their family,” said MassBay Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations and Executive Director of the MassBay Foundation Mary Shia.

The Herb and Maxine Jacobs Foundation funds programs that support low-income individuals preparing for jobs, increasing their future economic and career outcomes.

The Jacobs Foundation has been supporting health science students attending MassBay since 2013. The foundation has generously donated a total of $200,000 health science student scholarships, emergency funding, books and in 2015 the installation of an elevator in the Veterans Bunker area to make the veterans area accessible space for all military members.
