In other words, she inverted the typical paradigm regarding creative output. She didn't write what she knew, she wrote what readers wanted.
Six years later, Julia had sold 2 million books, has had 4 New York Times and 19 USA Today Bestseller list appearances. Her self-published books are sold by all major retailers, are available in libraries, translated into two languages, and sell in over one hundred countries every year through global distribution networks in eBook, print, and audiobook. She is her own publisher.
